All shipmates and their guests from all the years are invited to
another great reunion !! We have secured a terrific hotel with
rooms at a discounted rate of $105 per night plus tax. You can
call for a room reservation during regular business hours ( San
Diego time ) at 1 800 882 0858. Ask for the McCormick group
rate. Mention the reunion. If you call after hours or on the
weekend, you will get the headquarters switchboard and they will
not be able to help you with our group rate. If you want to book
a room on days other than the reunion dates, ( the nights of Oct
4th, 5th and 6th ) you will have to sweet talk them to get the
discount, if you can. You can not book a room online and get a
discount.
Here’s what will be
happening and what it will cost:
The
advance registration fee mailed in by September 1st
will be $25 per shipmate with no fee for spouses and guest.
The registration fee after that date and any time at the reunion
itself will be $40 per shipmate. Mail your registration
fee to David Newham at his address shown below.
David Newham
16330 SW King Charles Ave. King City OR
97224-2453
We’ll have
our own hospitality room with our own food and refreshments at
no additional cost. It will be open from when we arrive on
Thursday until we leave on Sunday so we can visit while sharing
memories and sea stories. We will always need a shipmate to act
as a host and keep it open for all of us to enjoy.
On
Friday the
5th at 9:30 a.m. we will take a charter bus to the 32nd Street
Naval Station for a ship tour, hopefully of a fully ready DDG.
After the ship tour we will proceed on a scenic route to the
Bali Hai restaurant on Shelter Island
http://www.balihairestaurant.com/
, for a delicious luncheon over looking the harbor with a
postcard perfect view. There will be a buffet with four
entrees, salads, dessert, and coffee or iced tea. The
service is excellent, and the food is always fresh and
delicious. Then we will tour back to
Seaport Village or
Old Town with some time to shop and browse, or
Balboa Park with time for the zoo or the museums.
We’ll be back at the hotel around 4:30 p.m. The cost
of both of these events will be $40 per person. The cost
of the bus tour to the ship tour only will be $18.
On
Friday the 5th after our bus tour and picnic Friday
evening will be free for dinner on your own, or you could visit
with shipmates in our hospitality room.
On
Saturday, October 6th, there will be an optional bus
tour to the
San Diego Wild Animal Park leaving at 9:00 a.m. and
returning to the hotel by 3:30 p.m. The cost per person
with round trip transportation and admission will be $49 per
person.
On
Saturday, October 6th, after the optional Wild Animal
Park tour and before our Banquet, we’ll squeeze in a USS LYNDE
McCORMICK (DDG-8) Unincorporated Association meeting late that
afternoon to chose new officers and decide our next reunion
location and year.
On
Saturday evening, October 6th, we will hold our
banquet starting at 6:30 p.m. at the hotel. We will have a
speaker to bring us an update from the fleet and we will hear
from all of our shipmates as they introduce themselves and
briefly tell about their service on our ship.
The menu for the
banquet will be -
- California Salad with Balsamic
Vinaigrette or Ranch dressing, - Roast Prime Rib of Beef with
Au Jus and Creamy Horseradish served with - oven Baked
Potatoes and - Fresh Seasonal Vegetables, served - with
Rolls and Butter, - Fresh Brewed Kona Coffee, Tea and
Decaffeinated Coffee, with - Chocolate Banana Cake.
The cost of the banquet will be $46 person.
Those who want a
optional entrée, can order Salmon Kauai served on a Bed of
Oriental Vegetables topped with a Wasabi Cream Sauce served with
Steamed Rice, or a vegetarian entrée with all the other
trimmings, salad and dessert for $37 per person.
On
Sunday morning, October 7th, we’ll have coffee in our
hospitality room as we say our “Goodbyes” until our next
reunion!
Depending on the needs of the Navy we may have to flip the
schedules for Friday and Saturday. We are also working on a ship
tour for Thursday afternoon.
One thing we do
need right now is some dues money to help us keep our
association alive, well and growing. We do not have a
formal annual dues requirement, but we are awfully glad to get
annual contributions from shipmates. If you could send in $10,
$25 or more that would be great.
This contribution is not deductible for taxes as we are not a
501(c)(3) organization.

San Diego enjoys beautiful weather year
round with an average daily temperature of 70.5º (21.4
degrees Celsius). A marked feature of the climate is the
wide variation in temperature within short distances due
to the topography of the land. You can enjoy coastal,
mountain and desert environments all in the space of one
day.
