Laid down by Defoe Shipbuilding, Bay City Mich. on April 4 1958.
Launched July 28 1959 and commissioned June 3 1961.
Originally classified as DD-958, classification changed to DDG-8 April 23 1957.
Decommissioned October 1 1991.
Stricken November 20 1992.
Fate Sold June 20 1994 to Consolidated Minerals for conversion into power barge.
Returned to Navy control March 23 1999 and sunk as a target off California

February 20, 2001 - Former USS Lynde McCormick
DDG 8 towed away from Mare Island, CA to be sunk as a target. The C.F. Adams
class destroyer was decommissioned in 1991 and sold in 1994 for conversion to a
power barge, but the conversion/scrapping contract was terminated 23 June 1999
for default. She is one of many ships returned to the Navy from shipbreakers in
recent years. The former USS Lynde McCormick DDG 8 met her demise as a target
ship on February 24th, 2001.
