    The USS Lynde McCormick continues operating out of San Diego, California, until 5 January, at which time she departs for her ? WestPac tour of duty engaging missions in the Persian Gulf.

    The USS Lynde McCormick's ports of call on this cruise include Hawaii, Kaohsiung, Subic Bay, Port Victoria, Persian Gulf, Hong Kong, Pusan, and Seattle.

    The USS Lynde McCormick participates in retaliatory strikes ( 14 April 1988 )  (Operation Praying Mantis) against Iranian Oil Platforms in the Persian Gulf. The USS Lynde McCormick shelled the Sassan oil platform with both 5 inch mount 51 and mount 52 guns. The USS Lynde McCormick was awarded with the Combat Action Ribbon, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Citation.
