The
USS Lynde McCormick DDG-8
undertakes an all-encompassing refresher training followed by a overhaul and
modification at Hunter's Point, San Francisco,
California, early in 1964, increasing her anti air
warfare capabilities. A high state of readiness had been achieved when the
Tonkin Bay incidents of 2
August 1964 and 4 August 1964 escalated the conflict in Vietnam.
In company
with CruDesFlot 11, the
USS Lynde McCormick DDG-8 departed 5 August 1964
for her second WESPAC tour of duty on a 6-month deployment
along the Vietnamese coast, primarily in the screen for the
USS Bon Homme Richard
CV 31 and
other carriers.
